Visiting Pisgah National Forest

By Washington Wandering on July 22, 2013February 11, 2022

Friday I only worked until 1 PM, so when I got home, Mike and I decided to go on an impromptu camping trip for our 16 monthiversary. We packed up our camping stuff (twinkle lights included), left some food out for the cats, and hit the road to Pisgah National Forest. The weather was absolutely

Still Sweet Night

By Washington Wandering on July 12, 2013November 19, 2018

Sometimes Mike goes to bed several hours before I do.  When he works 6 AM – 6 PM, he is often out of the house before 5:00 in the morning.  That means bedtime can be as early as 9 PM, and I am usually not ready to lay down at that hour. So I sit

the things you love

By Washington Wandering on June 25, 2013November 19, 2018

Mike and I went camping with some friends this weekend.  On Day 2, we were all pretty tuckered out from a night of beer, s’mores, and story telling, plus a full day of floating in the sun, so around 7PM everyone headed to their respective tents and took a power nap. Except me.  I showered,

Visiting Austria and Germany

By Washington Wandering on June 3, 2013February 11, 2022

The last few days of our jaunt across Europe were spent in Austria and Germany.  We did quite a bit of hiking. Finally the last of the Euro trip posts! It was a pretty good vacation.  I got to see a lot of places I have never been and I got to spend time with

Visiting Austria

By Washington Wandering on May 21, 2013February 11, 2022

We left Lake Bled and headed for Reutte, Austria.  We made a pit stop at Krimmler Waterfall. That’s not the waterfall.  That’s just a little stream that sidetracked me on our hike.  This is the waterfall: That’s not me jumping across it.  I wish it were. If you’re ever on the road in Austria, I

Visiting Ljubljana, Slovenia

By Washington Wandering on May 20, 2013February 11, 2022

Ljubljana.  Pronounced Lee-oo-blee-ahna.  Think of the Js as Is. Liubliana. Anyway.  It’s the capital and largest city in Slovenia.  We spent a day there during our stay at Lake Bled. We spent the morning walking up to the castle and then enjoying the view from on top of the tower.  After a few days of

When you give a kid a camera

By Washington Wandering on May 8, 2013February 11, 2022

I got my first camera sometime around 2000 or 2001. It might have been for my birthday while we were living in London.  I was instantly obsessed with photography and can’t even estimate how many rolls of film I went through. I’m up at my mom’s and was going through some things in my room

Visiting Lake Bled

By Washington Wandering on May 7, 2013February 11, 2022

Even though it rained all day we still adventured around the town of Bled.  We went up to the castle (I say “went” but I mean ascended a very steep staircase and slippery rock driveway), walked around the lake, and managed to find time to eat. I did not even remotely enjoy Slovenian food.  I

Visiting Salzburg

By Washington Wandering on May 6, 2013February 11, 2022

The day we left Salzburg the sun finally came out.  Before heading to Slovenia we walked down by the river for a little while.  I wanted to make sure I had some pics of Salzburg with the sun. We got into Bled, Slovenia in the early afternoon. We saw a little bit of sun at

I found an old blog post the other day where I’d written, “If you’re happy, show it. If you’re sorry, say it. Feelings aren’t meant to be fought, they’re meant to be felt.” A beautiful January weekend in Western Washington meant taking the time to enjoy this perfect sunshine + mountain + water combination. It’s happening 🥰❄️🥶 Have you see enough photos captioned “Fall in the North Cascades” yet? No? Good because here’s another. 😅🥹💛 Not quite peak but just as pretty! 🧡💛💚 Someone call Owen Wilson I could use a solid “wow” right about now. 😍 Up, up, up we go! Home from our 2025 Marmoteering adventure in @olympic_nps. We hiked in from Obstruction Point on Wednesday afternoon and spent all day Thursday and Friday surveying marmot habitat trying to determine whether certain areas were occupied or abandoned. We were only able to reach two of our three assigned clusters this year because of the challenging off-trail navigation, steep terrain and bear activity we encountered while trying to access the third one. Hopefully one of the later volunteer groups has better luck. But we did see a lot of marmots this year, as well as some abandoned burrows and a TON of mountain beaver activity. And best of all, it didn’t rain a single drop. 😅 We love this little spot along the River 🥰🌲
