Road Trip through Europe – Our Plan

By Washington Wandering on April 29, 2013February 11, 2022

Mike and I spent the last 10 days touring Germany, Austria, and Slovenia in a rental car with my Dad.  Here’s a graphic itinerary of our trip. I’ll start recapping as soon as I’m caught up on sleep and no longer operating in a jetlag-induced haze.

Visiting Rome – Favorite Places Tour

By Washington Wandering on April 22, 2013February 11, 2022

The first time Mike needed a passport was when we visited my Dad in Italy over Christmas holidays in 2010.  It was also the first time the two of them met – quite a monumental trip. If you’re going to pose with one of the many costumed actors at the Roman Forum, be prepared for them to ask for

Visiting Western North Carolina

By Washington Wandering on April 19, 2013February 11, 2022

The engagement edition. I lived in Asheville for a few months while interning at WNC Magazine. On my 22nd birthday, Mike drove up with a little surprise.  You can read that story here. Tomorrow is my 24th birthday and the 2 year anniversary of our engagement. This post is mostly about the hike: Pisgah Trail

Visiting New York City

By Washington Wandering on April 16, 2013February 11, 2022

New York. The City. The Countryside. I visited the city in December of 2010.  It was my first time there and I was absolutely enthralled.  I don’t know what it is about the place…the energy, the lights, the limitless capacity for exploration, all of the above?  I think the fact that it was Christmas time

Visiting Wyoming

By Washington Wandering on April 15, 2013February 11, 2022

Jackson Hole, Wyoming. I would go back to Wyoming again and again.  I loved it there.  The remoteness. The mountains.  All of it. We went in May and the entire world was still frozen and silent. Downtown Jackson was adorable, albeit crowded with novelty stores and tourist traps.  It reminded me of a smaller (MUCH

Visiting WNC Waterfalls

By Washington Wandering on April 11, 2013February 11, 2022

NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS. If you ever visit western North Carolina, make sure you do a waterfall tour.  Below is my friend Megan at High Falls. This is the two of us at Hooker Falls. A lot of the falls require a short walk/hike to get to the best vantage points but it’s completely worth dedicating

Visiting Prague – Favorite Places Tour

By Washington Wandering on March 28, 2013February 11, 2022

PRAGUE. Prague was another trip my dad and I made on our own.  In 2008, we visited for a week or so and did a LOT of walking.  It was one of my favorite trips – I wish I’d taken more pictures.  The architecture was so interesting. **In preparation for my trip to Germany/Austria/Slovenia in

Visiting Charleston

By Washington Wandering on March 26, 2013

SOUTH CAROLINA BEFORE IT WAS “HOME.” The Christmas of Sophomore year my dad and I took a trip to Charleston.  I’d never been before, and it was a great couple days just the two of us.  At that point, I don’t think I’d ever dreamed I’d live in South Carolina. Charleston became one of my

Visiting North Florida

By Washington Wandering on March 22, 2013February 11, 2022

I hope you’ll stick with me while I wax nostalgic for the next few posts. NORTH FLORIDA. I spent 2007 – 2011 exploring Leon and its neighboring counties. Tallahassee is unique in that it’s about 45 minutes from the beach and the entire area is spotted with natural springs and sink holes.  The landscape is

Visiting Wakulla Springs

By Washington Wandering on March 21, 2013February 11, 2022

Wakulla Springs is about 15 miles south of Tallahassee.  It’s easily one of the prettiest places in the panhandle (that’s not a gulf shore beach or oak-lined canopy back road).  During the right time of year, you can take a glass-bottom boat tour, and most days you’ll see a handful of gators and a manatee

I found an old blog post the other day where I’d written, “If you’re happy, show it. If you’re sorry, say it. Feelings aren’t meant to be fought, they’re meant to be felt.” A beautiful January weekend in Western Washington meant taking the time to enjoy this perfect sunshine + mountain + water combination. It’s happening 🥰❄️🥶 Have you see enough photos captioned “Fall in the North Cascades” yet? No? Good because here’s another. 😅🥹💛 Not quite peak but just as pretty! 🧡💛💚 Someone call Owen Wilson I could use a solid “wow” right about now. 😍 Up, up, up we go! Home from our 2025 Marmoteering adventure in @olympic_nps. We hiked in from Obstruction Point on Wednesday afternoon and spent all day Thursday and Friday surveying marmot habitat trying to determine whether certain areas were occupied or abandoned. We were only able to reach two of our three assigned clusters this year because of the challenging off-trail navigation, steep terrain and bear activity we encountered while trying to access the third one. Hopefully one of the later volunteer groups has better luck. But we did see a lot of marmots this year, as well as some abandoned burrows and a TON of mountain beaver activity. And best of all, it didn’t rain a single drop. 😅 We love this little spot along the River 🥰🌲
